Double Page Spread- Complete

This is the complete final copy of my double page spread. I feel is is quite successful as i included many standard conventions in order to make it look as
realistic and professional as possible.

Firstly i inlcuded a heading, reading the name of my featured artists tag name 'Scorps'. I downloaded the font Outlaw from the website dafont.com.
I felt this was a signature font as although is streamlined and has a professional
look, it is also playful in the respect it looks like the characters used in a
fruit machine, reflecting the hardworking but also playful side to my artist.
Underneath in a more simple Arial, regular font, i wrote 'not a businessman but
a business man'. This presents the reader with the idea that not only does he produce
music but he's also educated.
In order to entice my reader i included introductory text in the same Arial font, but made this text larger and included an outer glow in order to catch the readers eye. Above this i positioned an image of my model dress in quite casual costume.
I aligned my text in order to follow most layouts of ordinary magazines but also to make the readers eye follow down the left hand side of the page, and up to the top on the right column and back down.
I also using photoshop uploaded three photos i had taken and placed them into polaroids, in order to extend this playful idea presnted earlier. These images fill
the top right hand of the page and break the centre fold.
I have also included a pull quote, necessiry in any magazine to make it look realistic. My research of double page spread influenced my positioning of this pull quote, as in the 'Little Boots' article it is placed and almost breaks the text. It is in the same font, just of a larger size.

I also include a slug reading 'Interview', this was of the same font used on my front cover masthead (downloaded from 1001freefonts.com) - called Whoa!. I used the same font in my footer to write unleashed in a small font at both the bottom left and right hand side of the page. This was to have some sort of theme or fluency in my work but can also be found in existing media products. In the same place, in an arial font you can find the page number, also a standered convention magazines use.

Table Of Contents -Complete

1)
2)

Here is the complete copy of my table of contents. Image one depicts my final copy, as i felt in image two the black colour of the font meant the text was being lost on the dark background. Therefore i changed the font from black with a white shadow/ mirror text, to white with a black shadow/mirrored text.
Like most contents pages, mine contains an image of featured artists or images that are relevent to featured articles. As scorps was my exlusive interview i chose to only included a picuture of him. Using photoshop and the magnetic lasoo i carefully outlined and removed keirum from one of my existing photos. I also used the cloning tool to remove the nike tick from his jumper, as it is a branded product. From another existing photo i had taken i cropped the brick background and placed it on my contents page, then to add further effect i added an outer glow to my models image in order to make him stand out from the dark background. My models clothed in a jumper, new era cap, gold jewlerry and a watch all having signature connotations with gangsters. My contents page also consisted of text, with the features and page numbers being of a readable font size, underneath i included explanitory text, like most magazines do, in order to give the reader a brief outline as to what each feature or article consisted of. For this text i downloaded a font from dafont.com called 'Carnivalee Freekshow', which also linked to the unique styling of my magazine and was to playful. I also made sure all my text was neatly aligned and of the same font type and size, however if given more time i'd include more features and articles. My models costume, aswell as the brick background and the font types selected all contribute to the urban lifestyle i aimed to create, whilst also conforming to standard forms and conventions.

Front Cover - Complete

1)
2)

Image one is my final and complete copy of my magazines front cover.
Like a lot of magazines my magazine includes; a masthead, cover lines, explanitory text, a barcode, price line, slug line, date line, as well a medium shot image.
Although my masthead in the second image looks sharp and professional i did not feel it reflected the urban style of my magazine. Therefore using 1001freefonts.com i downloaded a text name 'Whoa!'and used this as my masthead font. My masthead continues the colour scheme of my front cover aswell as contents page and my double page spread, using the colours grey and yellow. This font type looked almost like graffiti commonly associated with rap artists, to expand on this idea using the brush tool on adobe photoshop i placed the odd mark in order to make the effect of dripping paint. Standard frontcovers usually only include 3 font types, which i then adopted into my front cover. For the masthead i used Whoa- 1001freefonts.com, for the date line, coverlines and explanitory text i used FargoFaro- 1001freefonts.com and to promote my artist in my exclusive interview i used my selected signature font Outlaw- dafont.com.
From my research of front cover images, the magazine Vibe i analysed had a simple, clean cut lay out which then influenced my chosen layout. I centred the image of my model, which i used the magnetic lasoo in photoshop to remove him from an existing image and placed him on a washed background. I then sorrounded his figure with my coverlines and explanitory text. Some of the coverlines were pull quotes and others
were promoting featured articles, through these it enabled me to include both formal and informal language- relevent and commonly used amongst stereotypical Hip- Hop and R&B listeners as well as to my target audience.
The date line can be clearly seen underneath the masthead and as can the slug line be found above the masthead. The barcode can be found at the bottom right hand corner of the page, and slightly above it the priceline, both clear and easy to find. Therefore i think my front cover develops standard forms and conventions of
regular media products.

Front Cover Photoshoot Plan

Double Page Spread Presentation

Market Research

I produced my market research/questionnairre on microsoft word.Like most standard magazines, market research is key way of gaining an insight as to what editorial content should be included and to help me find out what was relevent to my target audience. Who they were interested in seeing in my magazine, as well as the most popular genre, age group, price my magazine should be. From this i then recorded my results in excel and used them to influence important decisions made during production.

Double Page Spread Mock Up

This is the mock up for my double page spread. I tried to include the standard conventions commonly used in double page in order to make mine appear as professional as possible. Thererefore I ensured I included a header, space for images, space for text, as well as space for pull quotes. I chose not to include text rapping so's not to deffer the readers attention away from the images but to look at the article as a whole. I inserted an image at the top of the left hand corner of the page, but chose to have the larger images across the top of the right hand side of the page, this contributes to the Z eye flow i aimed my magazine to have. My positioning of the pull quote was so that if the reader skimmed over the article it would immediatly draw their attention and then they may wish to continue reading further. Also it broke up the text and fluidity of my alignment, this was influenced by my double page spread research of the article 'Little Boots'.

Table Of Contents Mock Up

This allowed me to practice and play around with the layout of my contents page, including standard conventions such as the header then a listing of features and articles i'd include in my magazine. This to is very simple but i feel professional.

Front Cover Mock Up

This mock up is pretty vague and simple. However given more time i would insert boxes as to where i would include my barcode, price line and strap line. I did however give a few examples of where id place cover lines and kickers as well as my masthead.
